NEIL SHEPHERD
Organist, choir trainer, music advisor and community musician
Neil was born in Hindley, near Wigan in Lancashire. After college in Manchester, he took up his first teaching appointment at Lawrence House Preparatory School, Lytham St Annes followed by a position at a school in Clitheroe. In 1996 Neil moved to the South West spending time in Cornwall, Bristol and the Cotswolds (where he was Organist and Master of Choristers at Cirencester Parish Church). He has been involved in the music world for the last 24 years including a wide range of experience including teaching, church music, broadcasting, travel and tour management, theatre organ playing and choral workshop management.
Neil works part-time in the travel industry arranging tours for choirs and orchestras, as well as freelancing as an organist in local churches. He organises and promotes regular choral workshops and teaches a small number of private students. He is a validated examiner and Cornwall Area Secretary for the the Royal School of Church Music and is a member of the Association of British Choral Directors (ABCD).
Neil and his family live in St Erth, a picturesque village, not far from St Ives in Cornwall. He has recently been appointed Director of Music at St Ives Parish Church, and is project leader of Cornwall Community Choir, conductor of West Cornwall Children's Choir and highly acclaimed Laudate Chamber Choir.
